Everyday day the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier in Iceland calves more ice into the Jökulsárlón lagoon. This results into some incredibly beautiful sights especially when the ice reaches the Atlantic Ocean. Tragically though the rate of the melting is accelerating. We have now passed the 400ppm CO2 level permanently. Scenes like this are becoming more and more common globally as glaciers quickly melt and recede. As an atmospheric scientist I found this morning on the beach overwhelmingly emotional. This is what a dying earth looks like.
Kirkjufell Magic
A long Friday was rewarded with a decent sunset over Kirkjufell. I tried for Friday morning but the clouds were just too thick for any color. Thankfully persistence paid off. ~~~~~~~~~~~About the long day...we didn't get into Reykjavik until almost 2am on Saturday. I was up over 24 hours! Thankfully I have an amazing wife who helped out with driving and taking care of our baby so this image could be taken.
